  • Kimberly-Clark was founded in 1872 by John A. Kimberly, Charles B. Clark, Havilah Babcock, and Frank C. Shattuck.
  • Their philosophy was to deal fairly with customers and make the best possible product.
  • Kimberly-Clark prides themselves in their safety. They have not had an accident in 12.5 years.
  • Starting Capital: $30,000- Clark put in $10,000, Kimberly and Babcock put in $7,000 and Shattuck put in $6,000.
  • Using the starting capital, Kimberly Clark & Co. opened their first mill, the Globe Mill, in Neenah on Commercial St.
  • The Globe Mill was the first mill in Wisconsin to produce newspaper out of linen and cotton rags. The nearest mill that could produce the same quality paper was 300 miles away in Ohio.
  • With profits made by the Globe Mill, Kimberly Clark & Co. decided to build the Red Mill in Neenah as well as add on to the Globe Mill.
